The Old Cypress Swamp Letterbox
Jesse H. Jones Park
County: Harris
Nearest Town: Humble, Texas
Placed by The Shorewood Folks....2/12/03
The Jesse H. Jones Park is a large wilderness preserve on Cypress Creek. It has ten hiking trails, a frontier fort-styled playground and picnic area, and a three-acre beach on the creek for fishing. It's open daily except for major holidays. (1-281-446-8588)
Directions to the park: From US-59 North, go west 1.7 miles on FM-1960. Turn right on Kenswick Drive. The park is at the end of the road.
Clues: As you enter the park, you will notice a visitors center on the left. Just beyond the center, turn left at the end of this road and follow the signs for West Trails Parking and Picnic Area. Enter the Cypress Boardwalk Trail at this parking lot. When you reach the trail marker that tells you about the Little Hip Hawthorne, look for a park bench nearby. In back of this bench is large, fallen, knee-less cypress and just beyond it is another fallen soldier that holds our letterbox. Depending on the season, check for any poison ivy in the area before you step off the trail.
